Dry eye syndrome
Dry eye syndrome can lead to significant visual discomfort, manifesting as redness, irritation, foreign body sensation, eye pain, excessive tearing, and blurred vision. This condition may arise from decreased tear production or increased tear evaporation, affecting the quality of the tear film crucial for clear vision. Various factors contribute to dry eye syndrome, including systemic medications, aging, hormonal changes associated with menopause, environmental triggers such as air conditioners and heaters, systemic inflammatory diseases like rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, and Sjogren’s syndrome, blepharitis, and certain ocular surgeries. Many patients experience fluctuations in symptoms, with periods of exacerbation and remission.
At Insight Eye Clinic, we understand the challenges posed by dry eye syndrome and offer comprehensive solutions tailored to each patient’s needs. Our approach may involve eliminating environmental triggers or modifying systemic medications to alleviate symptoms. Additionally, we provide treatments such as artificial tears, punctual occlusion to conserve tears, supplementation with flaxseed oil or omega-3 fatty acids, moisture goggles for enhanced hydration, eyelid hygiene regimens to alleviate inflammation, anti-inflammatory agents, and in rare cases, surgical intervention. With our expertise and personalized care, we strive to relieve discomfort and improve the overall quality of life for individuals affected by dry eye syndrome.
